About Bernadette Miller, M.D.

Bernadette Miller, M.D., FACS, specializes in internal medicine at Utica Park Clinic. Her professional areas of interest include hypermobility syndromes, Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, dysautonomia (failure of the automatic nerves to do their correct functions), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and mast cell activation disorders. Dr. Miller speaks fluent French and says she wants patients to know she is a strong ally of LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent individuals.

Dr. Miller’s love for medicine first began when she took a human physiology class at Tulsa Memorial High School. She said that class is where she fell in love with learning about how the body works and inspired her to become the physician she is today.

“While I practice all areas of internal medicine, I have specifically fallen in love with helping patients with Hypermobility Syndromes (such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) and Dysautonomia Syndromes (such as POTS) and I can only thank my amazing patients for influencing me to learn more about these conditions that are currently underrecognized and not well understood,” she said.

When it comes to advice for patients, Dr. Miller said, “Advocate for yourself and learn about your medical conditions on your own so you can challenge your health care team to consider things they haven’t considered!”

Dr. Miller values the relationships she builds with her patients and understands the vulnerability that goes into creating each one. She said, “I view myself as a flawed human being just like everyone else, which instantly makes it easy for me to be down to earth and put myself in the shoes of others. I am a professional at listening, supporting and doing my best to learn what is needed to help my patients, even if it requires some thinking outside the box!”

Outside of work, Dr. Miller enjoys spending time with her husband, Oliver Cerqueira D.O., their two sons, and their animals which include four dogs, one cat and two sulcata tortoises. She adds, “Gardening is one of my favorite hobbies – especially growing tomatoes and cucumbers!”
