About Mercedes Quiring, PA-C
Mercedes Quiring, PA-C, specializes in urology at Utica Park Clinic (UPC) on the campus of Hillcrest Hospital South. Her professional areas of interest include stress and urge incontinence, overactive bladder, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), hematuria and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Before Mercedes decided to pursue her degree and become a physician assistant, she worked as a medical scribe for the very same UPC office where she now gets to provide care. She said working in that role allowed her to fall in love with the specialty. “In urology, we have so many opportunities to make an impact on and improve our patients’ quality of life with conditions they thought were ‘normal’ or felt embarrassed by,” said Mercedes.
Now, as Mercedes works with patients to improve their daily lives, she believes the most important aspect of a good provider-patient relationship is excellent communication. “One of my main goals is to provide quality and thorough education at every appointment. I want my patients to feel like their questions were answered, they were listened to and were actively involved in their care. After all, I would not be here if it wasn’t for them,” she said.
One simple but important piece of advice that Mercedes likes to remind everyone when they come in for an appointment is to make sure they are drinking plenty of water.
