About Jay Bergquist, M.D.

John R. (Jay) Bergquist, M.D., M.S., M.A., is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgeon at Hillcrest Medical Center and Utica Park Clinic. Dr. Bergquist is particularly skilled in liver resection, pancreas resection including the Whipple procedure and biliary surgery via both open and minimally-invasive approaches. He is also experienced in addressing benign and malignant diseases of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract and treats gastric and esophageal cancers. He is especially proficient in robotic surgery using the Da Vinci surgical platform.

Dr. Bergquist is passionate about a multi-disciplinary approach to complex patient care and is a collaborative leader of the Hillcrest Cancer Center multidisciplinary tumor boards for HPB and GI oncology. He collaborates actively with specialists in medical oncology, gastroenterology, interventional radiology and others to provide maximally-connected care for his patients.

Dr. Bergquist has received national recognition for his research. He is an author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. He is recognized as an expert on surgical outcomes and multimodal therapy for pancreas, liver and biliary cancers as well as neuroendocrine tumors.

Dr. Bergquist’s personal interests include spending time with his family, boating, gardening, cooking, cycling and playing golf.
