About Ajit K. Tharakan, M.D.

Ajit K. Tharakan, MBBS, M.D., M.S., MCh, AB (surgery), AB (cardiothoraic surgery), FACS, is consultant cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon at Oklahoma Heart Institute. In addition, he is the surgical director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support program. With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Tharakan is adept in complex cardiothoracic surgery, complex aortic and redo cardiac surgery, ECMO, LVAD, congenital heart surgery and more.

He has numerous publications, patents and inventions. He was recognized as one of MU’s Top Faculty Achievers in 2017. He has been selected as Oklahoma top doctors from 2022 until present by Castle Connolly.

Dr. Tharakan has done additional training at St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India and Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, India where he secured the M.Ch (Master of Chirurgi) degree.
