About Clint Merritt, M.D.
Clint Merritt, M.D., FACS, specializes in breast surgical oncology. While his primary focus as a breast surgeon is to treat patients with breast cancer, he also treats those with benign breast problems like a cyst, abscess, breast pain, nipple discharge and those in need of genetic counseling and testing.
Dr. Merritt’s journey into health care started at the beginning of his education when he was learning about science and realized that he enjoyed learning about the human body. “Like most surgeons, I enjoy working with my hands, so surgery was a natural fit.”
While many factors played a role in the decision to specialize his practice, the one that stuck with him the most was the relationships created beyond a diagnosis. “Breast surgery is one of the few surgical specialties with a major emphasis on long-term patient-physician relationships after a cancer diagnosis. It allows the breast surgeon and the patient to create a strong, trust-based relationship. I was also drawn to the ever-improving research in the fight against breast cancer,” he said.
When it comes to your health, Dr. Merritt said, “It is imperative that you begin and continue your yearly screening mammograms on time and seek professional help quickly if you develop a breast concern.”
Outside of working at the clinic and hospital, Dr. Merritt enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, running and swimming. A fun fact about Dr. Merritt is that he has an identical twin brother who is his best friend and works as a colon and rectal surgeon.
