About Kamran I. Muhammad, M.D.

Kamran I. Muhammad, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, is a subspecialist in interventional cardiology with Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) with expertise in all facets of interventional cardiology including interventional therapies for structural heart disease.

Dr. Muhammad currently serves as the physician lead for the cardiovascular service line at Hillcrest HealthCare System, co-director for the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Hillcrest Medical Center and director of the structural heart disease program at Oklahoma Heart Institute.

With advanced training in interventional cardiology and structural heart disease intervention from the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Muhammad led a team of OHI physicians in performing the first transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR) in 2012, and mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (MitraClip) in 2014, in Tulsa and the region.

The Oklahoma Heart Institute structural heart program is the premier and most comprehensive program of its kind in the region, with the most experience and superior outcomes. It offers all commercially available transcatheter therapies as well as numerous research trials of novel devices/procedures. The structural heart program, under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad, has had numerous “firsts” and important milestones.

This program, through its partnership with the Oklahoma Heart Research & Education Foundation (OHREF), allows patients access to major structural heart research trials investigating new devices and procedures for the treatment of structural and valvular heart diseases with minimally invasive techniques (without surgery). Dr. Muhammad serves at the principal investigator for these studies which are only available in Tulsa and the region through OHI & OHREF.

In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Muhammad has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters on important cardiology topics and presented at many national cardiology meetings. He is proctor and educator for complex structural heart therapies and has proctored physicians throughout the U.S. He also serves as clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine – Tulsa.

Dr. Muhammad has also been frequently interviewed and featured in the local media, with appearances and articles on NewsOn6, NewsChannel 8, TeleTul Canal 51, Tulsa World, Community Spirit Magazine, Oklahoma Magazine and TulsaPeople Magazine.
