About Marilyn K. Culp, M.D.
Marilyn K. Culp, M.D., specializes in sleep medicine at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI).
Before studying and practicing sleep medicine, Dr. Culp spent over two decades as a family medicine doctor. She said, โAfter practicing family medicine for over 25 years, I wanted to learn more about the neurobiology of sleep and about breathing and movement disorders of sleep so that I could use these skills to help my patients. To learn these skills, I spent a year serving a fellowship in sleep medicine with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.โ
After several yearsโ experience practicing family medicine, she says one of her specialties is being able to listen to patientsโ concerns and then being able to address, diagnose and treat them. Dr. Culp said, โPatients like to know that they have been heard and that their concerns have been validated and considered in their treatment plan. Patients put their trust in me as their advocate and I have always felt this to be what it means to have the privilege of practicing medicine.โ
Dr. Culp is published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine and the Oxford Academic Sleep journal. In addition, she is a contributing author to “A Clinical Casebook of Sleep Disorders in Women”.
When Dr. Culp isnโt working with patients, she can be found gardening, swimming, baking, cake decorating and making candy. She and her husband of more than 30 years are proud of their two sons, the families theyโve built and their careers. โOur grandchildren are the love of my life,โ she said.
